| Editorial Reviews:
Product Description "The Pianist's Reference Guide" comes to the rescue of pianists overwhelmed by the abundance of books, videos, and other works about the piano. In this clear, easy-to-use presentation, Maurice Hinson surveys hundreds of resource materials, providing clear, practical annotations for each item, thus saving the user hours of precious library time. In addition to the main listing of entries, the book has several indexes, giving ready information on works about these important topics: accompanying (including chamber music); aesthetics; analysis; anatomy of a Piano; biographies; construction and design; editors, performers, teachers, and writers; twentieth-century pianists; history and criticism; lists of piano music; ornamentation; pedagogy; performance anxiety: stress and tension; performance technique; piano duet; transcriptions; works for two or more pianos. A separate Composer Index groups subentries topically for greater utility. An appendix gives addresses for publishers and other organizations that sell or distribute works discussed in this book.

Disappointed March 31, 2003 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
This book may contain some useful information but it is so poorly structured it's extremely tedious if not nearly impossible to dig it out. It is organized alphabetically by author rather than topic. There are cross indexes at the back of the book but they fail to give page numbers. Definitely recommend against purchasing.
Disappointing April 30, 2001 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
Even though this book sounded promising, it was in the end very disappointing. There are a few problems. Firstly, the references are organized poorly, I would like to have seen listings under for example 'piano technique', 'interpretation', 'biographies','piano history', etc. Instead it is just one very long alphabetical list with some limited cross-references at the end that are not practical to use. Secondly, a lot of references are to quite obscure. Finally, there is no advice at all, it is purely a listing, and thus no value is added by the author. I think the idea of the book is excellent, but it needs revamping!
